Phoenix Nightlife
When the sun sets, the Phoenix nightlife awakens and presents residents
and visitors with a wide variety of nighttime activities. A huge
variety of bars and nightclubs throughout Phoenix and the surrounding
communities offer opportunities to hear live music, dance, and socialize.
Recently, Phoenix area bars and night clubs extended their business
hours until 2 am, giving their guests even more time to revel in
their good time. Some clubs are home to DJs who spin heart-pumping
music so guests can dance the night away, while others offer live
music of all genres, performed by local artists and bands. Phoenix
is brimming with upscale nightclubs, sports bars, Mexican cantinas,
Irish and English pubs, and neighborhood taverns. Downtown Phoenix
and neighboring Scottsdale, are areas especially know for their
thriving nightlife, and opportunities to drink, dance, and socialize
in a wide variety of atmospheres. Both areas offer a plethora of
restaurants for starting your evening off with a great meal, and
both have their own unique nightlife character.
Downtown Phoenix has been experiencing a rebirth of sorts over
the last several years. The emergence of new and exciting restaurants
and nightclubs has begun to draw residents into the heart of the
downtown area. For years Phoenix has been drawing crowds to Bank
One Ballpark, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks professional baseball
team, and America West Arena, home to the Phoenix Suns professional
basketball team and concert venue for a variety of national musical
acts. Recognizing the potential for the downtown area, exciting
new restaurants and nightclubs have been popping up and opening
their doors to Phoenicians. Majerle’s Sports Grill is owned
by, the now-retired Phoenix Suns star, Dan Majerle. Not surprisingly
the restaurant has a sports bar theme combined with a comfortable
“Where everybody knows your name” feel. Sports memorabilia
and big screen televisions drape the walls and halls, and Dan Majerle
himself, as well as other well-known sports figures, are regular
patrons. Alice Cooperstown is another exciting restaurant/bar in
the downtown. Like Majerle’s, Cooperstown is owned by one
of Arizona’s celebrities, legendary rocker Alice Cooper. Cooperstown
is an eclectic melange of sports and rock ‘n roll with hundreds
of pieces of memorabilia. Signed guitars, posters, and clothing
articles from notable music and sport celebrities adorn the walls,
and an outdoor stage welcomes a variety of both local and nation
musical acts. Jackson’s on 3rd is unique in that it is comprised
of three different clubs in one. Jackson’s is the sports bar
portion of the club decorated in the typical athletic motif. The
high pumping dance mixes make Club Volume the place to dance, and
Club 245 offers a great stage to see live bands perform all night
long. The newcomer to the area is The Sky Lounge. This Latin influenced
nightclub creates a Miami nightlife scene with hard pumping salsa
and meringue rhythms. The very upscale chic décor is nearly
hidden behind the wall to wall crowds that flock to kick up their
heels and dance the night away.
Scottsdale offers visitors an upscale nightlife experience, with
trendy clubs, chic restaurants, and swanky lounges. Clubs like Axis
& Radius, Sanctuary, Martini Ranch & The Shaker Room, are
the places to see and be seen in Scottsdale. Strictly drinks and
dancing are in order at these clubs, as are laser light shows, fiber
optics, and brimming martini glasses. Show up looking your best
if you want to get in and expect to wait as the lines to get in
extend around corners and into parking lots. Places like 6 are designed
strictly for socializing. No dancing or live music here and the
food menu is limited, but the atmosphere is amazing. An ice slab
bar top keeps your drink cold, and colored light panels with plush
retro-style furnishings give the lounge an exceptional atmosphere.
Also noteworthy are the famous bathroom stalls with clear glass
doors that fog up when locked to provide privacy. You have to see
it to believe it. If it’s dinner and jazz your looking for
don’t miss the Velvet Room. Fine dining, cigars, and jazz
music linger amidst the 1930’s supper club décor. Despite
the pricey drinks and cover charges, these are the places to go
to mingle with the who’s who of the Scottsdale scene. It’s
not all glitz and glam in Scottsdale though. There are some other
notable places to check out when out on the town in Scottsdale.
The social and laid back atmosphere of Maloney’s Irish Pub
is the perfect place for a tall Guinness, and Handlebar-J’s
country bar and steakhouse offers patrons live country music nightly.
The always-bustling Sugar Daddy’s is the right place for a
more casual, less expensive, alternative to the high-end Scottsdale
clubs. There is a amazing amount of fun and energy created by live
blues and soul bands performing nightly, and a huge outdoor patio
complete with umbrellas, statues, and flaming tiki torches.
No matter what your tastes in nightlife entertainment, Phoenix
has a lot to offer. It’s longtime hotspots and new clubs and
restaurants, opening regularly in the Phoenix area, make it possible
to dance at a new club, make a new friend, hear new music, taste
a new drink, and sample a new dish nearly night.
